In the construction industry clients have a number of duties and responsibilities under Health & Safety legislation. We can help to advise you on these. Sherwood Surveyors take health and safety seriously and all technical staff hold The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) 'Managing Safety Certificate'.
When undertaking construction projects The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM Regulations) places a number of statutory duties on the clients which if not complied with could lead to criminal prosecutions. We can advise on Health & Safety matters as follows:
Client - (Person or organisation commissioning the work) - The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007 All Construction Projects - (Part 2 of the Regulations - excluding domestic clients)
- Check/vet competence and resources of appointees.
- Advise on resources and timing for all stages of a project.
- Help collate pre-construction information for designers and contractors.
Notifiable Construction Projects (Part 3 of the Regulations)
As Principal Designer we are able to advise and assist our client with their duties to supervise the health and safety aspect of the project:
- Notify the Heath & Safety Executive (HSE).
- Co-ordinate the health & safety aspect of design work and co-operate with all involved with the project.
- Facilitate good communication between client designer and contractors.
- Liaise with principal contractor regarding ongoing design.
- Prepare and update the health & safety file.
Principal Contractor - Client - The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007 Notifiable Construction Projects (Part 3 of the Regulations)
As Construction professionals with experience of a wide range of refurbishment and new build projects we are able to advise and assist contractors with their duties to supervise the health and safety aspect of the project:
- Help prepare develop and implement a written plan and site rules (Initial Plan - Completed before construction phase).
- Advise on suitable welfare and site security facilities.
- Check competence of all appointees.
- Advise on site induction training and any further information and training needed for the work.
- Liaise with the Principal Designer regarding ongoing design.
